Tripura CM Manik Saha Vows Swift Repairs to Crumbling Highways
CM Saha vows rapid highway fixes after monsoon ends.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has promised a swift, all-out effort to repair the state’s battered national highways as soon as the monsoon season fully subsides, addressing mounting public frustration over crumbling infrastructure. The announcement comes as damaged stretches, particularly from Mohanpur to Khowai and Khowai to Kamalpur, have sparked widespread criticism, disrupting travel and trade in the northeastern state.
Speaking to PTI on Sunday, Saha emphasized that road connectivity has seen significant improvements under the Modi government, with most of Tripura’s six national highways in good condition. However, he acknowledged the severe deterioration of key segments, attributing delays in repairs to relentless monsoon rains. “I’ve raised the issue with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and a team has already assessed the ground reality,” Saha said. “Once the rains stop, we’ll launch repairs on a war footing.”
The chief minister’s urgency follows public outcry over pothole-riddled roads that have slowed commerce and endangered commuters. Gadkari’s inspection team confirmed the extent of the damage, paving the way for a comprehensive overhaul expected to restore smooth connectivity across the state. Saha expressed confidence that the repairs would bolster Tripura’s infrastructure, aligning with the central government’s broader push for development in the Northeast.

Beyond roads, Saha highlighted transformative upgrades in rail connectivity, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enabling intra-state train travel. “I traveled by train to Dharmanagar and Kailashahar to inaugurate Durga Pujas – something unimaginable before,” he said, beaming with pride. On his puja inauguration marathon, Saha added, “I’m tireless in my duty. I’ve opened many pujas and will keep going.”
