Tripura CM Directs Police To Intensify Action Against Cybercrime And Women Safety Crimes

Tripura CM stresses cybercrime control and protection of women and children.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday called on the state police force to place greater emphasis on tackling cybercrime and crimes against women and children, while urging the adoption of a more technology-driven and people-centric approach to policing across the state.

Speaking at the passing-out parade of the 91st and 92nd batches of newly recruited constables at the KTD Singh Police Training Academy in Narsingarh, near Agartala, the Chief Minister stressed that police personnel must carry out their duties with honesty, sincerity, dedication, and a humanitarian outlook. He also holds the Home portfolio in the state government.

A total of 476 constables, including 318 women, completed an 11-month training programme covering areas such as traffic management, crowd control, disaster response, mob violence control, law and order maintenance, and detection of illegal activities. Chief Minister Saha said the training reflects the state’s ongoing efforts to modernise policing and strengthen internal security capabilities.

Highlighting the need to keep pace with evolving threats, Saha said modern policing cannot function effectively without advanced technological support. He urged personnel to remain prepared to address emerging challenges, particularly cyber-related offences, while ensuring that vulnerable groups such as women and children receive priority protection. He reiterated that ensuring their safety remains a top priority for the government and police administration.

The Chief Minister also announced plans for further expansion of the police force, including the upcoming recruitment of 218 Sub-Inspectors and approval for 916 additional constable posts. He noted that recent recruitment drives have already strengthened the force, with hundreds of new personnel completing training and entering active service.

Emphasising the importance of legal awareness, Saha urged the newly inducted constables to familiarise themselves with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which replaced colonial-era criminal laws and came into effect in July 2024. He said proper understanding of the new legal framework would be essential for effective policing in the coming years, alongside maintaining a balance between strict law enforcement and humane public interaction.
