Tragic Crash: Three Family Members Killed in Nellore Collision

A devastating car-truck collision claimed the lives of three family members from Palnadu district near Chenkicherla in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district at 1:00 AM on Saturday. The family of 11 was traveling to Tirupati for a child’s tonsuring ceremony when the tragedy struck, leaving the community in shock.

Details of the Incident

According to police reports, the accident occurred when the car’s driver attempted to overtake a truck from the right, resulting in a rear-end collision. The impact was catastrophic, mangling the car beyond recognition. Two passengers died instantly at the scene, while a third was declared dead upon arrival at a local hospital. The deceased were identified as Namburu Venkata Narasamma, Subhashini, and Abhiram, all from the same family.

Seven other family members sustained injuries, with two reported in critical condition. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, and those requiring advanced care were transferred to Nellore for treatment. Authorities have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances, with preliminary findings pointing to the driver’s misjudgment during the overtaking maneuver as a key factor.

Official Response

Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling the loss of three family members an “irreparable tragedy.” He directed medical authorities to provide immediate and advanced care to the injured during the critical “golden hour” to maximize survival chances. The minister also extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured support for the victims.

This accident adds to a string of recent road tragedies in Andhra Pradesh, raising alarm about safety on the state’s highways. The Chennai-Kolkata National Highway, where the incident occurred, has seen multiple accidents, including a similar crash in Nellore’s Manubolu mandal in 2023 that also claimed three lives. Experts urge stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved road infrastructure to prevent such incidents.
