Tragic Crash Kills Kanwar Pilgrim in UP’s Sambhal

One pilgrim dead, three injured in motorcycle-tractor collision during Kanwar Yatra.

A devastating accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district claimed the life of one Kanwar pilgrim and injured three others on Saturday, July 19, 2025, when their motorcycle collided with a tractor. The incident occurred in the Asmauli police station area as a group of Kanwariyas, traveling to Haridwar to collect Ganga water, attempted to overtake on a narrow road leading to Urha, according to police.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajesh Kumar Srivastava told reporters, “Some Kanwar pilgrims traveling by bike to Haridwar overtook on a narrow path and collided with a tractor. Three people are injured, and one has died.” The deceased’s identity has been confirmed, and the body sent for postmortem. The injured received initial treatment at Sambhal District Hospital before being transferred to Moradabad for further care.

To ensure a safe Kanwar Yatra, the Moradabad Municipal Corporation has deployed HD drones via its ‘Jatayu Van’ initiative to monitor pilgrimage routes. Live drone feeds are relayed to an integrated command control center and officers’ mobile phones for real-time coordination. Additionally, a grand Shiv Darbar with a 30-foot Lord Shiva idol and a Kanwar Yatra shed for over 100 pilgrims have been set up to support devotees.
