Hindu Mob Shuts Down KFC and Nazeer Foods in Ghaziabad Over Sawan Meat Sales
Hindu Raksha Dal forcefully closes popular eateries in Ghaziabad, protesting meat sales during the sacred Sawan period and Kanwar Yatra, as police stand by.
On Friday, members of the Hindu Raksha Dal stormed into a KFC and a Nazeer Foods outlet in Ghaziabad’s Vasundhara area, forcibly shutting them down over the sale of non-vegetarian food during the ongoing Sawan period and Kanwar Yatra. Chanting "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Jai Shri Ram," the group confronted restaurant staff, demanding respect for Hindu sentiments in what they described as a Hindu-dominated area. Videos captured the tense scenes, with one member boldly declaring, “This is Hindustan, and whatever Hindus want will happen here.”
Despite no official ban on non-vegetarian food sales in the region, the group claimed verbal permission from local authorities to stage the protest. “We are very active here and keep talking to the administration,” one member stated, adding that they lacked written approval but felt entitled to act. The group warned that any attempt to reopen the outlets would lead to further protests and shutdowns.
The Kanwar Yatra, which started on June 10, draws lakhs of devotees annually, who travel on foot from Haridwar to local Shiva temples, carrying Ganga water for offerings. The incident follows recent controversy over the Uttar Pradesh government’s mandate requiring shops along the Yatra route to display owners’ names and licenses, a move criticized for targeting specific communities.

The passive presence of police during the incident has raised concerns about law enforcement’s role in such conflicts. As tensions simmer, the forced closures highlight the growing friction over cultural and religious sensitivities during sacred periods like Sawan.
