Three killed in Ratlam after Tazia contacts power line.
Three people were killed and at least seven others injured after a Tazia came into contact with a high-tension electricity line during a Muharram procession in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district, police said on Friday. The tragic incident occurred in Hatnara village under the Piploda police station area on Thursday night, when large crowds had gathered for the religious procession.
According to officials, around 200 people were participating in the procession when the Tazia—being carried as part of the Muharram observance—touched an overhead high-voltage power line. The contact triggered a sudden electric shock that spread through the structure, causing panic and chaos among participants as several people suffered severe burns and injuries.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rakesh Pandro said police and administrative teams rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the incident. He confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to examine all possible factors, including whether safety measures were followed and whether the height of the power line met required standards.

The deceased have been identified as Rashid Khan, Saddu Hussain and Arbaz Khan. Officials said the families of the victims were present at the scene, and in one case, relatives took away the body before completion of hospital formalities. Authorities are continuing to verify details related to the fatalities and the sequence of events leading to the accident.
The injured have been admitted to Ratlam Medical College and nearby hospitals, where medical teams are closely monitoring their condition. Five of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, and doctors have been deployed to provide specialised care as the situation remains serious.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the overhead power line was hanging at a relatively low height and alleged that no electricity department personnel were present during the procession. A video of the incident has also surfaced on social media, showing scenes of panic as people rushed to rescue the injured. Police said further action will be taken once the investigation is completed and responsibility is established.
