Thane Parapet Collapse Kills Woman, Injures Daughter-in-Law

Parapet collapse claims life, injures another in Mumbra.

A devastating incident struck Maharashtra’s Thane district in the early hours of Tuesday when a portion of a four-storey building’s parapet collapsed, killing a 62-year-old woman and severely injuring her 26-year-old daughter-in-law as they walked along a road in Mumbra’s Daulat Nagar. The tragedy, which occurred at 12:36 am at Lucky Compound, has raised fresh concerns about the safety of aging structures in the region.

Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell, reported that the collapsed parapet from a flat in the building crashed onto Ilma Zehra Jamali and her mother-in-law, Nahid Jainuddin Jamali, both residents of nearby Sana Tower. Nahid was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival, while Ilma, battling serious injuries, is undergoing treatment. The sudden collapse has left the local community in shock, with residents mourning the loss and praying for Ilma’s recovery.

The affected building had been flagged as dangerous under the civic body’s ‘C2B’ category, indicating structural risks. Following the incident, authorities evacuated all residents for safety, sealed the premises, and confirmed that occupants have sought temporary shelter with relatives. The Thane Municipal Corporation is now investigating the collapse to determine the exact cause and prevent future tragedies.
