Teen Falls from Train in Thane Creek Rescue Ends in Tragedy
Teen’s body found in Thane creek after tragic fall from moving train.
In a heartbreaking incident, the body of 19-year-old Akash Sharma was recovered from Vitawa creek near Kalwa in Thane district on Friday, September 5, 2025, after he fell from a suburban train. The tragic accident occurred at 1 pm on Thursday while Sharma, a resident of Gholai Nagar in Kalwa, was traveling from Mulund in neighboring Mumbai.
Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell, reported that the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) launched an extensive search operation, supported by two boats and local fishermen. The search began immediately but was halted at 6:15 pm on Thursday due to challenging conditions, including high water flow and strong currents.
Resuming on Friday morning, the operation concluded when fishermen Prathamesh Kharkar, Jitu Kharkar, and Suresh Vitawkar located Sharma’s body at 12:30 pm. The police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This tragedy underscores the dangers of traveling near open train doors and the challenges faced by rescue teams in adverse conditions.
