Thane Disaster Response Jawan Dies After Bike Hits Pothole On Mumbai Highway
Road accident raises fresh concerns over highway safety.
A 31-year-old jawan of the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF), Vikas Lahu Gore, died in a road accident after his motorcycle reportedly hit a large pothole on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway in Maharashtra. The incident took place near the Bharangi River bridge in Shahapur taluka while Gore was travelling to work on his Royal Enfield motorcycle. His death has renewed concerns over the condition of the highway and the dangers posed by deteriorating road infrastructure during the monsoon season.
According to officials, Gore, a resident of Bamne village, lost control of his motorcycle after striking a pothole on the highway. The impact caused the bike to veer off course before crashing into the road divider. Passersby and local residents rushed to the spot and immediately shifted him to the Shahapur sub-district hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Gore succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Authorities have not reported the involvement of any other vehicle in the accident. The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by commuters travelling on highways affected by heavy monsoon rains, where potholes have become a recurring safety concern.

Vikas Gore was widely recognised for his service as a member of the Thane Disaster Response Force. He had recently participated in rescue operations during the Kohinoor building collapse in Bhiwandi, where he risked his life to save others. His death has drawn tributes from colleagues and residents, who remembered him for his dedication to emergency response and public service.
The tragedy has also triggered strong public outrage, with local residents demanding urgent repairs to the Mumbai-Nashik Highway. They have called on the authorities to immediately identify and fill dangerous potholes to prevent similar accidents. The incident has intensified demands for improved road maintenance and quicker civic action, particularly during the ongoing monsoon when damaged roads pose an increased threat to motorists.
