Noida Tragedy: 27-Year-Old Dies After Falling Into Deep Open Drain

Noida man dies after falling into open drain.

A 28-year-old man died after falling into an open drain in Noida’s Sector 57 during heavy rainfall on Thursday, triggering concerns over public safety and alleged negligence in civic infrastructure. The victim, identified as Aryan, son of Sanjay Kumar, was on his way to work in Sector 58 when the incident occurred.

According to police, Aryan was a resident of Village Chaura in Noida’s Sector 22. He fell into a deep drain in Sector 57 while travelling to his workplace. A co-worker, Shubham, rescued him and rushed him to the District Hospital in Sector 39, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The Sector 58 Police Station registered a case and completed the required inquest proceedings. Officials said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal action is underway. Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Aryan’s family has accused the Noida Authority of negligence, alleging that the drain was left open without proper safety measures or barriers. Local residents have also raised concerns about the presence of uncovered drains in several parts of the city, with the incident leading to anger and anxiety among people in the area.

The tragedy occurred as heavy rainfall caused major disruptions across Noida and neighbouring Ghaziabad. Several parts of Noida, including Sectors 16, 33 and 12, witnessed severe waterlogging, with some areas reporting knee-deep water. Commuters faced difficulties as vehicles stalled and pedestrians struggled to cross flooded roads.

The rainfall also resulted in traffic congestion during peak hours, particularly near Botanical Garden, where vehicles moved slowly due to water accumulation. In Sector 63, a company boundary wall collapsed, while Ghaziabad authorities declared a holiday for government schools due to the weather conditions. In another incident in Vasundhara Sector 13, a portion of road collapsed near an under-construction basement, causing a parked car and scooter to fall into the pit, though no injuries were reported.
