Telangana Requests Permission To Start Northern Section Of Regional Ring Road

Telangana seeks approval to begin work on key road project.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged the Centre to expedite approvals for several major infrastructure projects, including the Regional Ring Road (RRR), highways, and upcoming airports in the state. During meetings with Union ministers in New Delhi, Reddy sought immediate action on key proposals aimed at improving connectivity, reducing travel time, and supporting industrial development across Telangana.

In his meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the Chief Minister requested Union Cabinet approval to begin construction of the northern section of the Regional Ring Road. He said around 95 per cent of the land acquisition process for the northern section has already been completed. Reddy also sought approvals for the southern section, stating that starting work on both sections simultaneously would help complete the project faster and reduce overall construction costs.

Reddy also appealed to Gadkari for approval of the Greenfield Highway connecting Hyderabad with Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. He said the project, which is linked to commitments under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, would significantly improve regional connectivity. The Chief Minister proposed a 12-lane highway from Bharat Future City to Bandar Port via Amaravati, stating that it could reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Vijayawada by around 100 kilometres and boost freight movement.

The Telangana Chief Minister further requested forest clearances for the proposed Mannanur-Srisailam elevated corridor, which passes through an environmentally sensitive region involving the Nallamala Sanctuary, Srisailam Temple, and Srisailam reservoirs. He also sought approval for a six-lane alternative highway connecting Mancherial and Hyderabad as an alternative to the existing Rajiv Highway. Reddy assured that the state government would handle the required land acquisition and said the project would create new opportunities for agriculture and business growth.

During discussions with Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, Reddy highlighted the need to develop the proposed Warangal (Mamnoor) and Adilabad airports according to international standards. He said the locations of both airports offer strategic and commercial advantages and could play an important role in strengthening Telangana’s aviation infrastructure and economic growth.

Reddy emphasized Warangal’s importance as an industrial and connectivity hub, pointing to its railway and road networks, the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, Kazipet Coach Factory, and other industries. He requested the establishment of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, air cargo services, and hangar infrastructure at the Warangal airport. The Chief Minister said the airport could serve as a regional aviation centre for districts including Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, and Nalgonda, supporting future industrial expansion in Telangana.
