Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand has directed extensive security and law-and-order arrangements across the state ahead of the Bakrid festival, with authorities focusing on maintaining communal harmony and preventing any disturbances during the sensitive period.
According to official statements, the DGP held a video conference with Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from all districts to review preparedness. Senior officials from departments including Municipal Administration, Animal Husbandry, and Revenue also participated in the coordination meeting to ensure a unified approach to festival-related arrangements.
The police chief emphasized strict enforcement of legal provisions related to cattle movement and slaughter, instructing field officers to implement the Cow Slaughter Act, 1977, the Transport of Animals Rules, 1978, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Authorities have been asked to ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and take stringent action against illegal cattle transportation during the festival period.

As part of the security plan, officials confirmed that 52 inter-state check posts have been set up along the borders with Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, along with 203 additional checkpoints within Telangana. These measures are aimed at monitoring vehicle movement, preventing cattle smuggling, and ensuring that all transport-related documentation, including “Fit for Transport” and “Fit for Slaughter” certificates, is thoroughly verified.
The DGP also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between departments and directed the creation of district-level communication groups for faster information sharing. He urged police personnel to closely monitor social media platforms for provocative or misleading content and warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals attempting to incite tensions or spread misinformation.
Reiterating the need for peace and restraint, the DGP cautioned against any group taking the law into its own hands and advised community organizations to avoid confrontational actions based on suspicion. He further instructed officers to maintain heightened vigilance throughout the festival period, referencing past incidents and stressing that no untoward situation should be allowed to occur anywhere in the state.
