Telangana CM Proposes Innovation Centre At Skill University

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday proposed setting up a research centre at the Young India Skill University to encourage innovation and strengthen skill development initiatives in the state. During a review meeting of the Skill, Human Capital and Knowledge Training Initiatives (SHAKTI) Department, the Chief Minister outlined several measures aimed at improving employment opportunities and preparing youth for domestic and international job markets.

The Chief Minister also suggested creating a dedicated language training department at the university to teach foreign languages such as German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Russian. He directed officials to explore bringing instructors from these countries, along with local experts, to provide specialised training. According to the Chief Minister, foreign language skills would help students access wider career opportunities globally.

Revanth Reddy instructed officials to examine the possibility of providing scholarships for candidates undergoing training for blue-collar jobs, similar to financial support offered to students pursuing higher education abroad. He also said Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM) should take responsibility for supporting overseas employment seekers, including skill training, job fairs, passport assistance and connecting candidates with employment opportunities in foreign countries.

The Chief Minister highlighted concerns faced by migrant workers from North Telangana who travel to Middle Eastern countries and often face exploitation by fraudulent agents. He suggested that TOMCOM should establish agreements with overseas manpower agencies to provide support and legal assistance to workers facing difficulties abroad. He also directed officials to collect details of migration agents and maintain records of individuals sent overseas through these channels. A former Indian Foreign Service officer will be appointed as the CEO of TOMCOM to oversee these operations.

The Chief Minister also focused on expanding vocational training opportunities by introducing courses related to Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) driving, electric vehicle servicing and drone technology. He suggested that students from government engineering colleges, ITIs, ATCs and polytechnic institutions should receive internships with major companies, allowing them to gain practical experience and earn stipends while studying.

Revanth Reddy further highlighted the growing demand for nursing professionals in India and abroad, particularly due to ageing populations in developed countries. He said the state was granting permissions for more nursing colleges to meet this demand. The review meeting was attended by SHAKTI Minister Vivek Venkataswamy, senior officials, Young India Skill University Vice-Chancellor Subbarao and other representatives.
