Tamil Nadu Deploys 900 Special Buses from Chennai for Christmas Homecoming

Tamil Nadu to run 900 special buses from Chennai for Christmas travel rush on Dec 24-25.

To manage the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the Christmas festivities, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will operate 900 special bus services from Chennai to destinations across the state over the next two days. The move is aimed at ensuring smooth and comfortable travel for passengers heading to hometowns and religious destinations.

Most of the services will operate from the Kilambakkam Integrated Bus Terminus, the city’s major hub for long-distance buses. On Wednesday, 255 special buses will depart from Kilambakkam, while Thursday will see 525 buses on the road, connecting Chennai with high-demand routes such as Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem, and Kanyakumari.

Additional special services will run from Chennai and Coimbatore to popular destinations like Velankanni, Hosur, Nagapattinam, and even Bengaluru, with a total of 91 buses scheduled for these extended routes over the two days. To further ease congestion, 20 special buses will operate from Madhavaram in North Chennai.

Officials have also indicated that special return services will be available on Sunday, facilitating travel back to Chennai and Bengaluru after the Christmas holidays. The authorities stressed that these services are designed to ensure timely, safe, and comfortable journeys for festival travelers.

Passengers have been advised to plan their trips in advance and make bookings through official platforms to avoid last-minute hassles. The transport corporations emphasized that the additional buses are part of a broader strategy to manage the seasonal rush and prevent overcrowding on popular routes.

With TNSTC’s proactive measures, the Christmas travel rush across Tamil Nadu is expected to be smoother, with passengers benefiting from the expanded fleet and strategically scheduled services.
