Suspected Food Poisoning Sends 30+ Guests to Hospital at UP Wedding

Over 30 hospitalised after suspected food poisoning at Barabanki wedding.

More than 30 people, including children and the elderly, were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning after consuming non-vegetarian dishes at a wedding ceremony in Barabanki, officials said on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Lalapur locality of the Dewa area during the wedding of Mohammad Nazim, a resident of Khijna village. Guests began complaining of severe abdominal pain and vomiting about half an hour after eating the food served at the event.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Awadhesh Yadav, who reached the scene to oversee treatment, said an ambulance was rushed to the village after receiving information from locals. Those affected were initially admitted to the Community Health Centre in Dewa.

While many patients are being treated at the CHC, six people have been referred to the District Hospital for further treatment. Officials said some individuals have already been discharged after their condition stabilised.

Dr. Yadav said the health department is conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the food poisoning. Food samples from the event have been collected for laboratory testing.

Authorities are advising residents to exercise caution and ensure food hygiene during social gatherings. The incident has prompted local officials to review safety measures for large community events to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
