SP Vaid Accuses Pakistan Of Brutal Crackdown In PoK, Makes Jallianwala Bagh Comparison

SP Vaid criticises Pakistan over alleged PoK crackdown on protesters.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police S.P. Vaid has drawn a sharp comparison between the situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK) and the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, accusing Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir of acting in a manner similar to General Dyer amid ongoing unrest in the region.

Vaid alleged that Pakistani authorities were using excessive force against unarmed civilians protesting for basic amenities in PoK. He claimed that the situation reflected a pattern of repression, stating that Pakistan had historically contributed to violence in Jammu and Kashmir and was now allegedly targeting civilians in PoK through what he described as brutal state action.

The former top police officer also criticised Islamabad’s decision to ban the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a coalition of civil society groups, traders and students leading the protests. He said the move was “a joke,” alleging that while grassroots organisations were being declared unlawful, internationally designated terror figures continued to receive protection within Pakistan’s security establishment.

Vaid further questioned the silence of Kashmir-centric political leaders on the reported developments in PoK. He said that while some leaders were vocal on international issues such as Gaza and Palestine, they had not spoken out on the alleged crackdown in PoK, calling this selective response inconsistent and unjustified.

Meanwhile, reports from the region indicate that tensions have escalated across multiple districts of PoK, including Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot, where widespread protests have been taking place for weeks. The demonstrations, led by JAAC, have focused on demands for subsidised food items, reduced electricity tariffs and an end to what protesters describe as privileges enjoyed by the ruling elite.

According to protest organisers, recent clashes between demonstrators and security forces have resulted in multiple casualties and injuries, though these figures remain unverified independently. Authorities in the region have reportedly imposed movement restrictions, internet shutdowns and a ban on JAAC, which has further intensified public anger and protests.

The situation continues to remain volatile, with rising tensions between authorities and demonstrators highlighting deeper grievances over governance, economic hardship and civil rights in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
