Sonam Wangchuk Praises Vande Bharat During Ladakh Visit, Lauds Indian Railways

Activist Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday praised the Indian Railways after travelling on the Vande Bharat Express during his journey to Ladakh, describing the experience as enjoyable and expressing pride in the national transporter. Sharing a video on X, Wangchuk said he travelled from Delhi to Srinagar by train to experience the recently introduced route and to see the Chenab River bridge. While appreciating the railway service, he also expressed hope that the government would honour the commitments made during recent discussions on education reforms.

In the video, Wangchuk said the Vande Bharat Express was his preferred mode of transport and that the journey exceeded his expectations. "I had never taken the Vande Bharat Express from Delhi to Srinagar before. I wanted to see the Chenab River. I had a lovely experience, and I'm proud of the Indian Railways," he said. He added that he would stay in Kashmir for two days before continuing his journey to Ladakh.

Commenting on the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, Wangchuk welcomed its introduction in Parliament. He said the proposed legislation was a positive step but stressed that reforms should extend beyond examination systems to the broader education sector. According to Wangchuk, comprehensive changes are needed to restore confidence among students and ensure greater transparency and accountability in educational institutions.

Wangchuk also urged the government to honour the assurances allegedly given to him and leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) following recent discussions with Union ministers. He appealed to the authorities not to initiate legal action against students who participated in demonstrations over the alleged NEET paper leak. He further called for measures that would rebuild young people's trust in the country's institutions and governance, saying that every citizen should have a role in strengthening India.

The activist resumed public engagements after being discharged from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on July 27, where he had been admitted following a prolonged fast. Along with his wife, Gitanjali Angmo, he visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi before continuing his journey. Wangchuk had emerged as a prominent supporter of the student movement against the alleged NEET paper leak and ended his fast after meeting Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh, who had assured him that the issue would be taken up in Parliament.
