Puja With Lit Oil Lamp Inside AC Train Coach Goes Viral

Indian Railways has launched an inquiry after a video showing a passenger performing a puja with a lit oil lamp inside an air-conditioned train coach went viral on social media, raising serious concerns over passenger safety. Railway officials have begun efforts to identify the individual involved, the train in which the incident occurred and the social media account that first shared the video. The incident has sparked widespread discussion about adherence to safety regulations aboard trains, where the use of open flames is considered a significant fire hazard.

According to railway officials, the investigation is currently focused on tracing the original source of the viral video. Once the social media account is identified, authorities will work to determine the specific train and coach where the incident took place, as well as establish the identity of the passenger seen performing the religious ritual. Officials indicated that appropriate action would be considered after the inquiry establishes all the relevant facts surrounding the incident.

The one-minute video shows a passenger seated on the upper berth of an AC coach conducting a puja using a lit oil lamp (diya) and burning incense sticks. Several fellow passengers can be heard requesting the individual to extinguish the flame, expressing concern that it could pose a danger to everyone travelling in the coach. The presence of an open flame inside a confined railway compartment has drawn criticism online, with many users highlighting the potential fire risk.
