Sikkim Is The Pride of India! PM Modi Inaugurates Key Projects on 50th Anniversary of Sikkim Statehood

Pahalgam Attack Struck India’s Soul, But Our Response Was Unyielding: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam was an assault on India’s soul and unity, but Operation Sindoor delivered a “decisive” blow to terrorism.

Speaking virtually from Bagdogra, West Bengal, during Sikkim’s 50th statehood celebration, Modi emphasized that India’s united response obliterated terror infrastructure and airbases in Pakistan.

The Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, was a calculated attempt to sow religious discord, Modi said. “The terrorists’ actions erased the sindoor of our sisters, but India stood united and sent a clear message: we will not be divided,” he stated, addressing a gathering at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

Modi hailed Sikkim as a “pride of the nation,” commending its commitment to democracy and its blend of biodiversity and spiritualism. He congratulated the state on its golden jubilee, noting its rise as a tourist hotspot welcoming 10 lakh visitors annually and its potential to become a hub for adventure sports, citing icons like Bhaichung Bhutia and Tarundeep Rai.

Despite weather preventing his physical presence, Modi inaugurated key projects, including a 500-bed District Hospital in Namchi, a passenger ropeway at Pelling, and a statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gangtok. He also laid foundation stones for a glass skywalk at Singshore Bridge, a visitor center at Nathula, and a women’s hostel in Tadong, among others.

Modi underscored Sikkim’s strides in organic exports and nature conservation, calling it a model for sustainable development. He highlighted the Sevoke-Rangpo rail project, which will integrate Sikkim into India’s rail network, boosting connectivity.

Reiterating the NDA’s vision to make India a sports superpower, Modi said Sikkim and the Northeast could lead in adventure sports. “Sikkim’s achievements in biodiversity, tourism, and organic exports are remarkable for a small state,” he said, pledging continued support for its growth.
