Sikkim CM inaugurates footbridge, bank branch, and police outpost in Gangtok to boost safety and services.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated three significant infrastructure projects in Gangtok on Saturday, aimed at enhancing safety, financial access, and public security for residents. The initiatives include a new foot overbridge near Holy Cross School, a State Bank of Sikkim (SBS) branch in Daragaon, and a police outpost in Deorali.
The foot overbridge, located in one of Gangtok’s busiest school zones, addresses long-standing demands from residents and school authorities for safer pedestrian access amid heavy traffic. Speaking at the inauguration, Tamang stated, “This bridge will enable students and parents to cross the busy road safely, significantly reducing the risk of accidents while improving vehicular movement and mobility.” The structure is expected to alleviate congestion and enhance safety for schoolchildren and guardians.
In Daragaon, the Chief Minister opened a new SBS branch to promote financial inclusion. “I am confident that this branch will serve the needs of the local community and contribute to their financial well-being,” Tamang remarked. The facility is poised to provide accessible banking services to residents of Daragaon and surrounding areas, fostering economic empowerment.

Additionally, Tamang inaugurated a police outpost in Deorali to bolster law enforcement and public safety. “The new outpost is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of law enforcement and ensuring the safety and security of residents in the town and surrounding areas,” he said. The outpost is expected to enable faster emergency responses and improved monitoring of criminal activity.
These developments reflect Sikkim’s commitment to improving infrastructure, safety, and economic opportunities for its citizens, marking a significant step forward for Gangtok’s urban landscape.
