Sikkim artistes thank PM Modi for acknowledging their cultural performances.
During the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th Statehood celebrations, artistes who performed before Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude after he publicly acknowledged their cultural presentations. The event, held as part of the state’s golden jubilee celebrations, also featured the inauguration and foundation laying of multiple development projects worth around ₹4,000 crore, highlighting both cultural pride and infrastructure growth in the Himalayan state.
Several performers said they were deeply encouraged by the Prime Minister’s recognition of their efforts. Pravesh Tamang, Art Director at Music In Motion Dance Academy, stated that the acknowledgement of individual performers during the event made them feel valued and motivated. He added that PM Modi’s speech boosted the morale of young artistes and described him as an “icon” whose words would inspire the youth of the region. He also noted that the group had worked extensively for the performance, especially after the previous year’s programme was cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
Another performer, Mohammed Jamshed, who participated in a segment representing the Vande Bharat Express theme, said the team underwent nearly 10 days of rehearsals before the final presentation. He expressed satisfaction that their hard work was appreciated and highlighted that the performance received strong support from teachers and the organising team. Jamshed also mentioned that the Prime Minister spoke positively about Sikkim’s tourism potential and cleanliness, encouraging visitors to explore the state.

A student performer involved in a cultural segment representing the Lepcha community shared that the act included multiple Indian dance forms such as Garba, Bihu, Bhangra, Lavani, Kashmiri, and South Indian styles. The performance also featured a formation depicting the map of India, which reportedly drew applause from the Prime Minister. The student said the moment was emotionally significant for the entire group, as it reflected both national unity and cultural diversity.
The performer further recalled the challenges faced during rehearsals, including difficult weather conditions and physical strain. Despite such hurdles, participants said the opportunity to perform before the Prime Minister made the effort worthwhile. The celebrations marked a significant milestone for Sikkim, blending cultural showcase with developmental announcements and reinforcing the state’s identity within India’s broader regional narrative.
