PM Modi Confident BJP Will Form West Bengal Government After Elections

PM Modi expresses confidence BJP will form West Bengal government and return for oath-taking ceremony after results.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the next government in West Bengal, stating that he would return to the state for the oath-taking ceremony after the assembly election results are declared on May 4. He made the remarks while addressing a public rally in Barrackpore on the final day of campaigning for the second and last phase of polling.

In his speech, Modi launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleging that the state had been affected by what he described as “syndicate raj,” political violence, and economic decline. He said he had sensed a favourable political mood in the state and expressed confidence in a BJP victory, drawing strong reactions from the crowd.

The Prime Minister also said that West Bengal’s development was essential for India’s overall progress, describing the eastern region as important for the country’s future growth. Referring to past BJP electoral successes in other eastern states, he asserted that the party would extend its presence in West Bengal as well. He also invoked the historical significance of Barrackpore, linking it to India’s freedom struggle, and said the region was poised for political change.

Modi addressed issues concerning refugee-origin communities, particularly the Matua community, assuring them that a BJP government would ensure citizenship documentation for all eligible individuals. He also spoke strongly on the issue of illegal infiltration, stating that while no Indian citizen would be affected, those entering illegally would face strict action.

Focusing on employment, the Prime Minister said West Bengal had witnessed long-term migration due to a lack of job opportunities. He claimed that addressing unemployment among the youth would be a priority for a BJP government in the state. He further said efforts would be made to create local opportunities to reduce outward migration.

Modi also referred to the legacy of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, stating that the BJP had fulfilled one of his major ideological commitments with the abrogation of Article 370. He added that the party aimed to fulfil remaining aspirations linked to West Bengal’s development, concluding his speech with references to cultural themes of prosperity and growth for the state.
