Seven Hours to Nowhere: London-Bound Air India Flight Forced Back to Delhi
Air India flight returns to Delhi after technical issue.
An Air India flight bound for London was forced to return to Delhi on Thursday after being in the air for over seven hours due to a technical issue, officials said. The flight, carrying passengers on a scheduled international route, safely landed back at Indira Gandhi International Airport without any reported injuries.
Air India confirmed that the aircraft experienced a technical snag mid-flight, prompting the pilots to make a precautionary return. “The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is our highest priority. The flight landed safely, and all necessary protocols were followed,” a spokesperson said.
Passengers onboard described a long and tense journey, as the aircraft remained airborne for several hours before returning. Ground staff at Delhi airport assisted with disembarkation, and Air India arranged alternate travel plans for those affected.

A preliminary inspection revealed that the snag was related to a technical system requiring maintenance checks before the plane could continue to its destination. The airline has stated that a detailed investigation will be conducted to ensure the aircraft is fully airworthy for future flights.
Air India has reassured travelers that safety protocols are strictly adhered to and that such incidents are rare. The airline emphasized its commitment to maintaining operational standards and minimizing disruptions for passengers.
Aviation experts noted that in-flight technical issues, while uncommon, are handled according to rigorous safety procedures. Pilots are trained to prioritize safety above schedules, and airlines coordinate with airport authorities to manage such situations efficiently.
