Senior Army Officer Reviews Security Situation In Manipur’s Forward Areas

Army reviewed Manipur forward area security and operational preparedness.

A senior Indian Army officer on Thursday reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of forward-deployed troops in Manipur, as the state continues to remain sensitive following recent incidents of ethnic clashes and security disturbances. The assessment was carried out across multiple forward locations under the Red Shield Division, officials said.

According to Defence spokesperson Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, Lt Gen Girish Kalia, General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps, visited key areas including Kangvai, Sendra, Litan and Yaingangpokpi. During the field visit, the senior officer reviewed ground-level deployment, coordination among units, and the overall readiness of troops stationed in the forward regions. He also undertook an aerial reconnaissance of areas affected by recent tensions in Ukhrul district, where Tangkhul-Kuki clashes had been reported.

The Army officer interacted directly with field commanders and personnel deployed in the region, appreciating their operational alertness, discipline and continued efforts to maintain stability. He commended the troops for their professionalism and vigilance in handling a complex security environment, where rapid response and coordination remain critical.

As part of the visit, Lt Gen Kalia also inspected the Red Shield Drone Lab at Leimakhong Military Station, where he reviewed ongoing indigenous initiatives related to drone assembly, maintenance and specialised training in drone warfare. Officials said the Army is focusing on strengthening technological capabilities to improve surveillance, reconnaissance and operational effectiveness in difficult terrain.

The Corps Commander praised the innovation-driven approach being adopted by the unit and highlighted the importance of developing mission-specific drone solutions tailored to operational needs. He also acknowledged the technical expertise of personnel involved in these futuristic defence initiatives, underscoring the Army’s emphasis on integrating advanced technology into field operations.

In a parallel development, senior officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) also met Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the state Secretariat in Imphal to review the prevailing law and order situation. The meeting focused on recent disturbances and coordinated response mechanisms between central forces and the state administration to maintain peace and public safety across the region.
