Restrictions Lifted in Uttam Nagar as Eid, Ram Navami Celebrations Pass Peacefully
Uttam Nagar curbs eased after peaceful Eid and Ram Navami.
Authorities in Uttam Nagar have eased security restrictions after the peaceful observance of Eid and Ram Navami, marking a rare moment of normalcy in the area following three weeks of heightened tension. Senior Delhi Police officials confirmed that certain curbs, previously imposed to prevent communal unrest, have been relaxed as no incidents were reported during the recent festivals.
On Thursday, residents of Hastsal Village celebrated Ram Navami with small processions, prayers, meetings, and Kanjak rituals under strict but reduced security. Unlike during Eid, a limited number of outsiders were allowed into the heavily barricaded locality, enabling families and children to pass through freely and visit temples without interference. Police said this step reflected the absence of any reported threats from the community.
The heightened security was initially imposed after 26-year-old Tarun Bhutolia died on March 4 in a clash between families of different religions during Holi celebrations. For the past three weeks, each lane in the area remained barricaded at both ends, and over 1,000 personnel were deployed to maintain order. Thursday’s easing of restrictions was described by officers as a cautious return to normalcy.

Local businesses welcomed the change. Neetu Kumari, who sells Kanjak prayer items and accessories, said her shop had suffered significant losses during the barricading period. “I think everyone was scared earlier, but now it’s all resolved. People are arriving from the Metro station side, and sales have picked up,” she said. Residents also expressed relief, with one noting that their bhajan gatherings and temple visits proceeded without incident.
Police emphasized that security arrangements remain in place despite the easing of curbs. A senior officer explained that while outsiders were allowed during Ram Navami, local residents were never detained during previous celebrations, and personnel continue to monitor the area to prevent any escalation.
The temporary relaxation of restrictions has been viewed as a positive development by both residents and authorities, signaling cautious optimism that communal tensions in Uttam Nagar may gradually subside. Officials said they will continue to maintain vigilance while allowing normal daily activities to resume.
