Rajasthan Muslims Hold Black-Armband Protests Against Iran Attacks During Eid

Shia Muslims in Rajasthan protested attacks on Iran during Eid-ul-Fitr; heavy security and drone monitoring deployed.

On Saturday, Shia Muslims in Rajasthan marked Eid-ul-Fitr with protests against attacks on Iran, holding rallies across Jaipur, Ajmer, and Sikar. Participants wore black armbands and hoisted black flags over mosques as a symbol of mourning, while raising slogans condemning the United States and Israel. Women and children also joined the demonstrations, reflecting widespread community participation.

In Jaipur, following Eid prayers, members of the Shia community staged a large-scale protest, chanting slogans against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump. Some protesters declared they would refrain from celebrating future festivals until the leadership in both countries changes, expressing anger over recent developments affecting Iran.

In Amer, Jaipur, women and children from both Shia and Sunni communities took to the streets, highlighting the collective grief of local Muslims. Protesters stated that their religious leader had been killed through deceit, turning the Eid festivities into a period of mourning rather than celebration.

Similar demonstrations were reported in Ajmer, where Maulana Syed Taqi Jafar, Imam-e-Juma of Dorai, said that Muslims were observing a period of mourning following the reported martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In Sikar, worshippers wore black armbands while offering Eid prayers, joining the state-wide display of protest.

Authorities deployed tight security across the state’s major cities to maintain order. In Jaipur, police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were stationed around prominent mosques, including the Eidgah, Chowk Jama Masjid, and Chak Shia Jama Masjid. Drone surveillance and flag marches were also conducted in key areas to monitor the gatherings.

The protests in Rajasthan illustrate how international events, particularly those involving Iran, have reverberated among local Muslim communities. While Eid is traditionally a time of celebration, this year the festival has become a platform for expressing solidarity with global Muslim concerns, blending religious observance with political messaging.
