Republic Day 2026: Operation Sindoor Victory and Vande Mataram Legacy Shine in Tableaux
DMA tableau highlights India’s military triumph while states showcase cultural and freedom movement heritage.
The Department of Military Affairs (DMA) will commemorate India’s victory in Operation Sindoor during this year’s Republic Day parade, highlighting the joint efforts of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The tableau will feature a dual design: one side displaying critical military hardware used during the operation, and the other depicting the destruction of adversary infrastructure.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, involved precision air strikes against terrorist targets and concluded after 88 hours of intense action. Officials said the tableau aims to convey the message of India’s successful, coordinated military response and the synergy among its armed forces.
In line with the parade’s overarching theme of 150 years of Vande Mataram, 30 tableaux—17 from states and UTs and 13 from ministries and services—will highlight India’s freedom struggle and rapid socio-economic progress. Themes range from self-reliance under Aatmanirbhar Bharat to the nation’s cultural diversity, blending history with modern achievements.

West Bengal’s tableau celebrates the state’s contribution to India’s independence, featuring a bust of Vande Mataram composer Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, alongside figures like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose, Matangini Hazra, and other freedom fighters. The float also incorporates a musical performance of the iconic song first sung by Rabindranath Tagore in 1896.
Gujarat’s tableau emphasizes the legacy of the Tricolour, tracing its history to freedom fighter Bhikaji Cama, while Punjab commemorates the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, showcasing the Gurudwara Sri Sis Ganj Sahib and a revolving Ek Onkar symbol. Other states, including Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, will highlight handicrafts, folk culture, and heritage arts.
Ministries such as Culture and Information & Broadcasting are also contributing tableaux, emphasizing storytelling, the soul of the nation, and India’s rich cultural tapestry. Together, the Republic Day floats reflect a seamless blend of military achievement, historical remembrance, and celebration of India’s enduring heritage.
