Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta hoisted the Tricolour at Chhatrasal Stadium on Saturday to mark the 80th Independence Day and paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose courage and sacrifices laid the foundation of an independent India. Addressing the gathering, Gupta described Independence Day as more than a national festival, calling it an occasion to remember the extraordinary dedication of those who contributed to the country's freedom. She also stressed that freedom carries a continuing responsibility towards nation-building.

Gupta said the national flag represents both India's history and its aspirations for the future. Paying tribute to freedom fighters, she noted that their struggles provided a strong foundation for the country's democratic system. She emphasised that the Tricolour serves as a reminder that citizens must contribute to building the nation while preserving the values associated with India's Independence and democratic journey.

The Chief Minister also outlined the challenges her government encountered after assuming office, including administrative delays and incomplete projects. She said the government chose to treat these difficulties as opportunities for transformation and adopted a result-oriented approach to resolving them. Gupta maintained that her administration's focus was on ensuring that governance translated into visible development rather than remaining confined to administrative processes and paperwork.

Gupta said her government was prioritising faster decision-making, timely completion of schemes and ensuring that the benefits of government programmes reach citizens directly. She also highlighted coordination between the Delhi government and various agencies under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, arguing that cooperation among institutions can accelerate development. According to Gupta, several schemes and programmes that had previously not been implemented are now being taken forward.

The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and noted that Delhi was benefiting from various initiatives of the Central government. She later shared photographs from the Independence Day celebrations on X and outlined her government's vision for the capital. Gupta said the objective was to build a clean, modern and self-reliant Delhi, while creating opportunities for young people, strengthening women's participation and ensuring good governance reaches citizens.

Gupta further emphasised that Delhi would have an important role in India's broader development journey. She outlined a vision in which the capital's cultural heritage and traditions progress alongside modern infrastructure and economic development. She said her government was working towards a developed Delhi and reaffirmed its commitment to making the capital more efficient, inclusive and self-reliant as India moves towards its larger national development goals.
