Rekha Gupta Commits Funds To Modernize Delhi’s Cow Shelters
Delhi CM funds cow shelters, expands biogas, improves welfare infrastructure.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced plans to upgrade 40 cow shelters (goshalas) across the city, pledging enhanced facilities and expanded programs focused on animal care, biogas production from cow dung, and cleanliness initiatives. The announcement came at the Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan, where she released financial aid for the shelters and emphasized the importance of cultural responsibility and compassion toward animals.
In her address, Gupta highlighted the first phase of the project, which will focus on modernizing 10 goshalas to ensure the “service, protection, and nurturing of destitute cows.” She added that lease extension agreement certificates were being provided to Delhi’s goshalas, alongside funds for establishing biogas infrastructure, reflecting a broader commitment to environmentally sustainable practices.
The Chief Minister also reinforced her government’s focus on governance and development. “Delhi had been held back in the past but is now moving forward with a renewed approach. From this point on, Delhi will witness transformation rather than confrontation — performance, not politics,” she stated. Gupta underscored the administration’s achievements in clearing long-pending dues related to sportspersons, welfare programs for economically weaker sections, scholarships, awards, and the Kishori scheme. Tuition fees worth Rs 114 crore for SC, ST, and OBC students and Rs 538 crore for Delhi government colleges have also been disbursed.

Gupta’s announcement coincided with a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, where development and infrastructure priorities were discussed. Sharing details on the social media platform X, she said the meeting focused on Delhi’s “development, public welfare, and future direction,” and highlighted the administration’s emphasis on infrastructure acceleration, environmental initiatives, and overall quality of life improvements.
The Chief Minister framed the goshalas initiative as an extension of Delhi’s cultural values, linking animal welfare with environmental sustainability. She emphasized that these efforts align with the city’s broader “Green Budget,” which prioritizes eco-friendly infrastructure and citizen-centric governance.
With these measures, the Delhi government aims to modernize urban animal shelters, advance renewable energy use through biogas, and strengthen public welfare programs, signaling a comprehensive strategy to combine cultural, environmental, and social development under Gupta’s leadership.
