Reimagining Keralam: Ministers Discuss AI, Health, Ageing at IIM-K Retreat

A two-day residential strategic leadership retreat titled ‘Reimagining Keralam’ has begun at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K), bringing together Kerala’s Council of Ministers for discussions on the State’s long-term development priorities. The retreat is aimed at giving ministers an opportunity to examine emerging challenges, identify new opportunities and develop strategies that can shape Kerala’s growth in the coming years.

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp, marking the beginning of the two-day workshop. The retreat is being conducted with the participation of IIM-K faculty members as well as experts associated with international institutions. The sessions are designed to provide policymakers with perspectives from academia, industry and global development practices while examining issues that have a direct bearing on Kerala’s future.

The discussions cover a broad range of subjects, including artificial intelligence, climate resilience, public health and the changing demographic profile of the State. Ageing is among the issues receiving attention, reflecting the challenges associated with Kerala’s evolving population structure. Ministers are also discussing employment and ways to respond to changing requirements in the labour market as technology and economic conditions continue to transform traditional patterns of work.

Higher education is another key area being examined during the retreat, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening the State’s education ecosystem and preparing young people for emerging opportunities. Bringing these subjects together is intended to encourage a broader and more integrated approach to policymaking.

The participation of IIM-K faculty and international experts provides the ministers with an opportunity to examine Kerala’s policy challenges from different perspectives. Rather than focusing only on immediate administrative concerns, the retreat is centred on long-term planning and strategic leadership. Artificial intelligence, climate change, demographic shifts and employment trends are increasingly influencing governments worldwide, making discussions on these subjects particularly relevant to the State’s future planning.

The ‘Reimagining Keralam’ retreat is therefore intended to serve as a platform for the Council of Ministers to reflect on the State’s development trajectory and consider strategies for the years ahead. By bringing policymakers and experts together in a residential workshop, the programme seeks to encourage detailed discussions on governance, economic development and social priorities.
