Red Alert as Arunachal Faces Rainfall and Landslide Threats

Arunachal Pradesh faces flood, landslide threats amid IMD's severe weather alerts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a critical weather advisory for Arunachal Pradesh, predicting heavy rainfall across multiple districts starting Sunday, September 14, 2025. An 'Orange' alert, signaling the need for preparedness, has been issued for Papum Pare, East Kameng, West Kameng, Namsai, Lohit, Tirap, Longding, and Lower Subansiri due to anticipated heavy rainfall that may lead to waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides.

On Monday, the situation is expected to intensify, with a 'Red' warning issued for Upper Subansiri, Siang belt, West Kameng, Tawang, Lohit, Anjaw, and parts of Lower Dibang Valley. These areas are likely to experience very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, posing significant risks. Meanwhile, Papum Pare, East Kameng, Namsai, and Changlang will remain under an 'Orange' alert.

By Tuesday, while rainfall activity is expected to be slightly less severe, widespread showers will continue to affect East Kameng, West Kameng, Papum Pare, East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Changlang, and Longding, all under an 'Orange' alert. The IMD warns of ongoing risks of waterlogging in low-lying areas and road blockages due to landslides.

On Wednesday, widespread rainfall is forecast to persist, particularly impacting Upper Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, West Kameng, East Kameng, Lower Siang, Namsai, and Lohit. Most districts will be under a 'Yellow' watch, indicating the need for vigilance, though heavy rainfall in isolated pockets could still trigger localized flooding.

The IMD's bulletin also noted that fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms was highly likely across nearly all districts on September 13, with heavy rainfall already reported or predicted in Papum Pare, West Kameng, East Kameng, Upper Subansiri, Namsai, Lohit, and Anjaw. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
