Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Launches Vande Ganga Water Conservation Campaign
Rajasthan CM launches Vande Ganga water conservation campaign across the state.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday launched the statewide ‘Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan–Jan Abhiyan 2026’ from the Bisalpur Dam in Tonk district on the occasion of Ganga Dashami, with a renewed appeal for public participation in water conservation efforts across the state. The campaign aims to strengthen water conservation, improve rainwater harvesting, and promote community-driven initiatives at the grassroots level.
The Chief Minister performed Jal Pujan at the Bisalpur Dam amid Vedic chants and prayed for adequate rainfall and water security in the state. He also visited the Bisaldev Mahadev Temple and offered prayers for the prosperity and well-being of Rajasthan’s citizens. The launch event marked the formal beginning of a 10-day statewide drive that will run from May 25 to June 5, focusing on water conservation awareness and infrastructure activities.
During his address, Sharma highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of Ganga Dashami, stating that it is believed Mother Ganga descended to Earth on this day, symbolising life and sustenance. He recalled that similar conservation efforts were undertaken during last year’s campaign, where water bodies such as dams, ponds, lakes, and anicuts were cleaned and restored. He said the government intends to expand and intensify these efforts in the current phase of the programme.

The Chief Minister announced that elected representatives, including Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly, will actively participate in the campaign. He emphasised that water conservation is a collective responsibility and urged citizens to take part in activities such as shramdaan, plantation drives, Jal Chaupal community meetings, and awareness rallies. He also reiterated that “Water is Life” and called for sustained public engagement in conservation efforts.
As part of the initiative, officials briefed the Chief Minister on ongoing water management systems, including the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA system) used to remotely monitor dam operations at Bisalpur. Sharma, who inspected the dam’s infrastructure, directed authorities to develop additional water-related infrastructure and strengthen recharge systems for the Banas River to improve groundwater levels and long-term water availability in eastern Rajasthan.
Following the Bisalpur visit, the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the Isarda Dam to review ongoing water conservation and irrigation works. Officials also outlined plans under the Ramjal Setu Link Project, which connects multiple dams including Isarda, Galwa, and Bandh Baretha. The campaign will also see the launch of new projects and inauguration of completed works, alongside large-scale public awareness activities across villages in the state.
