Rajasthan BJP Says Gehlot Government Failed To Create Permanent Water Supply System

Rajasthan BJP criticises Ashok Gehlot, alleging failure to establish a permanent water supply system across the state.

Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Madan Rathore on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the previous Congress-led state government, alleging that it failed to establish a permanent and reliable water supply system in Rajasthan despite being in power for three terms.

Rathore said that the issue of drinking water scarcity, particularly in regions like Jodhpur and surrounding rural areas, reflects long-standing governance gaps. He argued that despite repeated tenures, the Congress government under former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot could not create a sustainable infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted water supply across the state.

His remarks came in response to recent criticism from Gehlot, who had reportedly written to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma highlighting the worsening water crisis in Jodhpur and demanding the deployment of water trains to address shortages. Rathore said such demands reflect the continuation of a recurring problem that, according to him, should have been resolved during earlier Congress regimes.

The BJP leader said the current state government is actively working to address water supply challenges through both short-term relief measures and long-term infrastructure planning. He added that while urban supply in Jodhpur remains largely stable, some rural pockets have experienced disruptions, which authorities are attempting to resolve through continuous monitoring and distribution efforts.

Rathore further attributed recent supply interruptions to temporary operational factors, including scheduled maintenance activities at Bhakra Dam, and said that the situation is gradually stabilising. He reiterated that the government is committed to ensuring door-to-door water delivery in affected areas while strengthening overall distribution systems.

In addition to water-related issues, Rathore also criticised opposition parties for what he described as “political theatrics” over fuel and gas prices. He said the central government is taking necessary steps to maintain energy security amid global geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions, while urging opposition leaders to focus on constructive solutions rather than criticism.

He also appealed to citizens to adopt simple conservation measures during the summer season, including providing water and food for birds and animals. Highlighting a local BJP worker’s initiative of installing “parindas” (water pots), he said such community-driven efforts reflect social responsibility and should be encouraged across the state during the ongoing heatwave period.
