Commuters drenched as water enters metro coach during rain.
Rainwater leaked into a Pune Metro coach on the Pimpri–Swargate Purple Line during heavy showers on Friday evening, leaving passengers stranded inside a waterlogged compartment and triggering concerns over commuter safety and metro infrastructure standards. The incident reportedly took place in Pimpri-Chinchwad during peak travel hours as the city experienced intense pre-monsoon rainfall.
According to reports, commuters aboard the metro train noticed water dripping from the roof of one of the passenger coaches shortly after heavy rain began. The leakage reportedly intensified within minutes, causing water to accumulate inside the compartment. Videos circulating widely on social media showed passengers attempting to move away from the leaking section while some were unable to avoid getting drenched as water continued pouring into the coach.
Eyewitness footage from the incident captured scenes of discomfort and confusion among commuters, many of whom repeatedly shifted seats and standing positions in an effort to stay dry. The visuals quickly gained traction online, prompting criticism from civic observers and passengers who questioned the quality and maintenance of the metro system, especially during the onset of the monsoon season.

The incident has raised broader concerns regarding the structural preparedness of Pune Metro infrastructure against heavy rainfall. Authorities had not released a detailed explanation regarding the source of the leak at the time of reporting.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune recorded 13.1 mm of rainfall while the city’s temperature stood at 37 degrees Celsius. Nearby Satara also witnessed light drizzles during the day.

In the Marathwada region, Parbhani and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar reported maximum temperatures of 41.3 and 41.4 degrees Celsius respectively. Mumbai’s Colaba observatory recorded 35 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz registered 34.5 degrees Celsius, according to IMD data.
