Revanth Reddy Submits Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 Expansion Plan To Centre For Approval
Revanth Reddy urges Centre to approve Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 expansion worth Rs 38,595 crore.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged the Centre to approve the long-pending Phase-II expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and support its execution as a joint venture between the state and Union governments, during his meeting with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the national capital.
During the discussions, Revanth Reddy presented a detailed briefing on the proposed expansion plans for both Phase-II and Phase-III of the metro network. He submitted that the Telangana government has already prepared and forwarded a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase-II, which outlines the development of seven metro corridors with a combined length of 122.9 kilometres. The state government has positioned the project as a critical step to meet Hyderabad’s rapidly expanding urban transport needs.
According to the official statement, the estimated cost of Phase-II is projected at ₹38,595 crore. The Chief Minister requested the Centre to expedite approvals and extend both financial and administrative support by partnering with the state for implementation. He emphasised that joint execution would ensure faster completion and better coordination in a project of such large scale and strategic importance.

Revanth Reddy also pushed for inclusion of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA)–Bharat Future City corridor under Phase-III of the metro expansion plan. He informed the Union Minister that the DPR for Phase-III has already been submitted to the Centre for consideration. The proposed corridor is being described by the Telangana government as a key infrastructure link intended to improve airport connectivity and support planned urban development in Hyderabad’s emerging growth zones.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Hyderabad’s rapid population growth and increasing commuter demand have made metro expansion an urgent necessity. He noted that strengthening public transport infrastructure is essential to reduce congestion, improve connectivity, and support long-term economic development in the city. The state government, he said, is prioritising integrated urban mobility planning to keep pace with the city’s expansion.
Revanth Reddy also informed the Union Minister that the Telangana government has taken over Phase-I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited. He said this move would allow the state to better coordinate and streamline future phases of the project. With Phase-I now under government control, officials believe integration of Phase-II and Phase-III networks can be executed more efficiently, ensuring a unified metro system for the city’s future transport needs.
