Rahul Gandhi Visits Indore to Meet Families Hit by Contaminated Water Outbreak
Rahul Gandhi to meet water contamination victims and visit Bhagirathpura in Indore on Saturday.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Indore on Saturday to meet patients and families affected by the recent water contamination crisis in Bhagirathpura, Madhya Pradesh. The locality has witnessed a severe outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea, which has claimed multiple lives, according to local residents.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari claimed that 24 people have died due to the contaminated water, with several others in critical condition. The state government, however, has officially reported seven deaths, including a five-month-old infant. Gandhi will visit the affected patients undergoing treatment at Bombay Hospital and express condolences to grieving families.
During his visit, Rahul Gandhi is also expected to tour Bhagirathpura to understand the ground situation and discuss potential solutions for safe drinking water. Patwari said the Congress had sought permission to hold a conference with experts, environmentalists, and municipal councillors, but the administration denied approval, postponing the discussion.

Patwari further alleged that 70% of the water supplied in Madhya Pradesh is contaminated, calling it a “slow poison” affecting kidney and organ health. He also criticized the ruling BJP for focusing on events instead of addressing the ongoing public health crisis in Indore.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court was recently updated by the state government regarding the outbreak, while a ‘death audit’ conducted by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College linked 15 of the deaths in Bhagirathpura to the water contamination. Gandhi’s visit is seen as a political and humanitarian effort to highlight the crisis and demand immediate action for safe water access.
