MLA’s Daughter, Congress Leader’s Son Die in Indore Road Accident
Deadly accident claims lives of Congress-linked youths post-birthday party.
A heartbreaking road accident struck Indore in the early hours of Friday, January 9, 2026, claiming the lives of three young individuals, including Prerna Bachchan, the daughter of prominent Madhya Pradesh MLA and former home minister Bala Bachchan, in a high-speed collision on the Tejaji Nagar bypass near Ralamandal.
The group—comprising Prerna Bachchan, Prakhar Kasliwal (son of Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson Anand Kasliwal), Mansindhu (a local transporter), and Anushka Rathi—was returning from celebrating Prakhar's birthday in nearby Mhow when their car, allegedly driven by Prakhar under the influence of alcohol, veered out of control and rammed into an oncoming truck around 5:15 am.
According to Deputy Police Commissioner Krishna Lal Chandani, the impact was instantaneous and devastating, resulting in the on-spot deaths of Prerna Bachchan, Prakhar Kasliwal, and Mansindhu, while Anushka Rathi suffered critical injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where her condition remains serious as medical teams continue intensive treatment.

Prerna Bachchan, known among family and friends for her ambition and discipline, had been diligently preparing for the prestigious civil services examinations, embodying aspirations of contributing to public service much like her father, whose political career has long been associated with tribal welfare and congressional leadership in the state.
The tragedy has prompted widespread condolences from Congress ranks, with former chief minister Kamal Nath terming it "heart-wrenching" in a public statement, while Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar described the loss as irreparable, extending prayers for strength to the grieving families; meanwhile, police have taken the truck driver into custody and launched a detailed investigation to determine all contributing factors, including potential overspeeding and road conditions.
