Punjab Police Files FIR Over IndiGo Flight Bomb Hoax at Chandigarh Airport
A hoax bomb threat on an IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Chandigarh prompts Punjab Police to register an FIR, intensifying security measures.
Punjab Police has lodged an FIR following a hoax bomb threat discovered on an IndiGo flight (6E-108) that landed at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali from Hyderabad on July 5. The threat, written on a tissue paper reading "bomb inside," was found in the aircraft’s lavatory during routine cleaning after all 227 passengers, including 220 travelers, five crew members, and two pilots, had safely disembarked.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Amarpreet Singh confirmed that IndiGo’s security manager promptly reported the note to airport authorities and police. A comprehensive search by an anti-sabotage team, bomb disposal squad, and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel found no explosives. Passengers’ luggage was also thoroughly screened, yielding no suspicious items.
The FIR, filed against unidentified individuals, invokes sections 351, 324(5), 217, and 3A(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Aircraft (Security) Act.
