FIR Filed Against Comedian Ratan Ranjan for Morphed Rahul Gandhi Image in Hyderabad

Reddy’s complaint claims that Ranjan posted a digitally altered image.

An FIR has been registered at Begum Bazar Police Station in Hyderabad against comedian Ratan Ranjan and others for allegedly creating and sharing a morphed image of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on a sanitary pad, according to police officials. The complaint, lodged by Telangana Youth Congress president Jakkidi Shiva Charan Reddy on July 6, accuses Ranjan of spreading false and malicious information through social media and transmitting obscene material targeting women.

Reddy’s complaint claims that Ranjan posted a digitally altered image placing Gandhi’s photo on a sanitary pad, an act deemed defamatory and disrespectful to women across India, particularly in Bihar. The post, which was retweeted by others, was seen as trivializing women’s health and outraging their modesty, especially in light of the All India Mahila Congress’s ongoing campaign to distribute sanitary pads to underprivileged women in Bihar to promote menstrual hygiene.

The FIR invokes relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act, 2000, targeting Ranjan and others involved in circulating the content. Similar complaints have been filed in Bengaluru and Cuttack, with the Bengaluru FIR at High Grounds Police Station naming Ranjan and Arun Kosil, following a complaint by Youth Congress worker Priyanka Devi. The Congress has condemned the posts as part of a coordinated smear campaign, with further legal actions underway. Investigation continues as police probe the intent and impact of the viral content.
