Puducherry CM Rangasamy Lauds Fair Police Recruitment
CM Rangasamy highlights transparent police hiring
Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, addressing the 79th Independence Day celebrations at Gandhi Thidal, announced that all vacant police department posts have been filled in a fair and transparent manner to strengthen law enforcement. “This measure ensures the protection and security of people while maintaining law and order,” he said, after unfurling the national flag and inspecting a guard of honour by the Puducherry Police.
Rangasamy emphasized that his government has filled 2,500 vacant posts across departments without political interference, earning praise for fast-tracking promotions for staff waiting nearly a decade. He highlighted infrastructure initiatives, including a ₹6.43 crore project to sink borewells at 14 points along the Sankarabarani river, funded by France’s Agence Française de Développement. The CM also proposed increasing the MLA Local Area Development fund from ₹2 crore to ₹3 crore annually.
Claiming Puducherry’s emergence as a socio-economic model, Rangasamy noted its second-place ranking in sustainable development goals since 2020-21. Economic growth rose from -2.21% in 2020-21 to 8.81% in 2024-25, with revenue mobilization increasing 46.60% from ₹8,418.96 crore to ₹12,342.51 crore. Unemployment dropped from 6.7% to 4.3%, and a 10% quota for government school students in NEET and non-NEET admissions boosted access to professional courses.

Attributing these achievements partly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support, Rangasamy honored police and health officials, presenting President’s Police Medals to Senior Superintendent Anita Roy, retired SP K L Viravallabane, and Inspector B Viswanathan, alongside Chief Minister’s medals for exemplary service. He later hoisted the tricolour at the Legislative Assembly, joined by Speaker R Selvam, ministers, legislators, and freedom fighters. Puducherry Central University also marked the occasion, with Vice Chancellor P Prakash Babu unfurling the flag.
This follows Rangasamy’s earlier efforts, including filling 1,056 government vacancies announced on Liberation Day 2022, with significant police department roles like 253 constables and 60 sub-inspectors, and ongoing plans to recruit 1,000 more by early 2026, reinforcing Puducherry’s commitment to transparent governance and development.
