Priyanka Defends Rahul After SC’s Shocking Rebuke
Priyanka backs Rahul, slams SC on Indian identity.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra fiercely defended her brother, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday after the Supreme Court criticized his remarks about the Indian Army made during the 2022 Bharat Jodo Yatra. Speaking to reporters at the Parliament House complex, Priyanka asserted that it is not the judiciary’s role to determine “who is a true Indian.” She emphasized that Rahul, as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has a duty to question the government and clarified that he holds the Army in the highest regard, dismissing the court’s interpretation of his comments as a misunderstanding.
The Supreme Court on Monday stayed proceedings against Rahul in a Lucknow court over his Army-related remarks but censured him, stating that a “true Indian” would not make such statements. Priyanka countered, “With due respect to the honourable judges, they do not decide who is a true Indian. It is the opposition’s job to challenge the government.” She reiterated that Rahul would never speak against the Army, underscoring his respect for the armed forces.
The controversy sparked a political firestorm, with the BJP accusing Rahul of vowing to “strengthen China,” while Congress hit back, alleging the government has dodged accountability since the Galwan incident. The party claimed the government employs a strategy of “deny, distract, lie, and justify” to obscure the truth. The exchange highlights the escalating tensions between the opposition and the ruling party as Rahul’s remarks continue to fuel debate.
