Prime Minister Modi To Take Stock Of Government Reforms In Secretaries' Review Meeting

PM reviews reform progress with senior government secretaries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to chair a high-level meeting of secretaries from all Union ministries and associated departments on Tuesday to review the progress of governance reforms and policy implementation. The meeting, scheduled a day after the Prime Minister returned from his visit to Seychelles, is likely to focus on accelerating administrative reforms, simplifying regulations and advancing the government's vision of transforming India into a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The interaction will mark the Prime Minister's second comprehensive meeting with the country's top civil servants and is expected to begin at 4:30 pm. According to sources, secretaries from various ministries will present updates on key policy initiatives, developmental programmes and reform measures undertaken in their respective departments. The review is intended to assess implementation progress, identify bottlenecks and ensure that major government initiatives remain on track.

A significant part of the discussions is expected to centre on the government's flagship reform agenda, particularly efforts aimed at improving the Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living. Senior officials are likely to provide progress reports on structural reforms, regulatory simplification and measures designed to enhance public service delivery. The meeting is also expected to identify sectors requiring greater administrative attention to ensure the timely execution of projects and policy commitments.

The review assumes added importance in the wake of the government's recently launched "52 Reforms in 52 Weeks" initiative, which seeks to fast-track governance reforms across multiple ministries, including the Ministry of Railways. The programme outlines specific reforms to be completed within defined timelines, reflecting the government's emphasis on measurable outcomes and time-bound implementation. Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly stressed the need for ministries to maintain momentum in executing reforms and regularly monitor progress through periodic reviews.

The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital governance tools is also expected to feature prominently during the meeting. Officials are likely to brief the Prime Minister on the integration of AI-based solutions into administrative processes and public service delivery, with the aim of improving efficiency, transparency and citizen-centric governance. The review is expected to reinforce the government's broader push towards technology-driven administration while ensuring that reform initiatives contribute effectively to the long-term goal of building a developed India by 2047.
