President Murmu celebrates Nuakhai, honors farmers
President Droupadi Murmu extended heartfelt greetings on the occasion of Nuakhai, an agrarian festival widely celebrated in western Odisha, emphasizing its significance as a moment to express gratitude to India’s farmers. In a post on X, she described Nuakhai as a “symbol of goodwill and intimacy,” wishing for happiness, peace, and prosperity for all citizens.
Nuakhai, a vibrant harvest festival, involves offering the season’s first crop to deities, followed by seeking blessings from household elders, fostering community bonds. President Murmu, a native of Odisha, highlighted the festival’s cultural importance, stating, “This sacred occasion allows us to honor agriculture and pay respect to our hardworking farmers who sustain the nation.”
The festival, deeply rooted in Odisha’s agrarian traditions, also showcases the state’s rich cultural heritage through rituals, folk dances, and communal feasts.
Murmu’s message resonated widely, particularly in Odisha, where Nuakhai is a major celebration in districts like Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Kalahandi. Her words underscore the vital role of farmers in India’s economy and the need to celebrate their contributions through such traditions.
