Wall and Shed Collapse at Cuttack Railway Station
Minor injury amid redevelopment mishap.
A portion of an old wall and a platform shed collapsed at Cuttack Railway Station in Odisha during ongoing redevelopment work, causing temporary disruption to train services. The incident, which occurred at 3:45 PM on Platform 1, resulted in one person sustaining minor injuries, according to the East Coast Railway (ECoR). The injured individual was promptly hospitalized.
An ECoR officer reported that the collapse caused the shed’s roof to cave in, scattering debris onto the tracks and halting train movement on Platforms 1 and 2. “During redevelopment works, some construction was being carried out with adequate safety precautions. Unfortunately, an old wall collapsed,” ECoR stated, emphasizing that restoration efforts are underway to clear the tracks swiftly.
Pradeep Kumar Behera, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operation) of Khurda Road Division, noted that the collapsed structure was old and that public access was restricted near the site due to the ongoing work. An eyewitness mentioned the incident occurred shortly after a Vande Bharat train passed the platform, narrowly avoiding a more severe outcome.

The incident, occurring during the Rs 303-crore Amrit Station Scheme redevelopment, underscores challenges in upgrading aging infrastructure.
