Preliminary Report on Ajit Pawar Plane Crash Coming Soon

AAIB to release preliminary report soon on Learjet crash near Baramati that killed Ajit Pawar and four others.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to release its preliminary report soon on the Learjet 45 crash near Baramati airport, which claimed the lives of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu confirmed that the investigation is progressing rapidly and that the initial findings will be made public shortly.

The Learjet 45, owned by VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd, went down on January 28 during its second landing attempt at Baramati airport. Onboard were Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, his personal security officer, attendant, and the cockpit crew — pilot-in-command Sumit Kapur and first officer Shambhavi Pathak — all of whom tragically lost their lives.

A major breakthrough in the investigation came with the recovery of the aircraft’s black box, which is expected to provide critical data on the plane’s final moments. Officials said the flight recorders will be closely analyzed to determine technical or operational factors that may have contributed to the accident.

Meanwhile, political voices have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the crash. On February 10, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar called for a comprehensive multi-agency investigation, citing potential grounds for suspicion and possible sabotage, though no evidence has been confirmed so far.

The civil aviation ministry has emphasized that the AAIB will follow standard investigative procedures, including reviewing flight data, air traffic communications, and maintenance records. The preliminary report is expected to shed light on the sequence of events and offer initial insights before a detailed final report is released.

Authorities continue to monitor all related developments closely, with aviation experts noting that early findings could help prevent similar accidents in the future and inform stricter safety measures at regional airports like Baramati.
