Police Detain Six As Precaution During CJP Protest At Jantar Mantar
Police detain six during CJP protest at Jantar Mantar to prevent tensions.
A protest organised by the online youth movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on Saturday saw heightened security and brief detentions after police acted to prevent a possible confrontation between groups. Delhi Police detained six individuals on a preventive basis, stating that the action was taken to maintain law and order amid concerns of tension between supporters and opponents of the movement.
The demonstration, led by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, drew hundreds of participants, including students and young professionals. Protesters gathered at the site demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in various examinations and recruitment processes. Participants raised slogans seeking greater transparency and accountability in competitive exams, while some attendees wore cockroach-themed masks and carried symbolic props as part of the demonstration.
Police officials said the six individuals were taken into preventive custody after they were found allegedly attempting to disturb order near the protest venue. Authorities clarified that the detentions were precautionary in nature and no major untoward incident was reported during the gathering. Security arrangements were strengthened across the area to ensure that the protest remained peaceful and that rival groups were kept separated.

Addressing the crowd, Abhijeet Dipke alleged that the movement’s social media accounts were being targeted. He claimed that instead of engaging with their demands, attention was being diverted through actions such as deleting posts and hacking accounts. Speaking emotionally, he said, “You may be able to delete our posts, but you cannot erase us from this space.” He also mentioned that activist Sonam Wangchuk was expected to join the protest and thanked him for his support.
Dipke further recounted his experience earlier in the day at Indira Gandhi International Airport, saying he felt mentally prepared to face consequences for his participation in the movement. He described the struggle as ongoing and urged supporters to remain committed to their cause, while the crowd responded with slogans backing the campaign.
The CJP movement, which has grown primarily through social media mobilisation, has been raising concerns over alleged irregularities in examinations such as NEET, CUET, CBSE-linked tests, and SSC recruitment processes. In response, authorities maintained a heavy police presence at Jantar Mantar and surrounding areas, with barricades and monitoring systems deployed to prevent escalation and ensure public safety.
