Police Baton-Charge Bihar Police Job Aspirants Protesting in Patna

Protesters demand constable recruitment exam date, face police action.

Tensions erupted in Bihar’s capital on Monday as hundreds of job aspirants took to the streets near Dak Bungalow crossing, demanding clarity on the constable recruitment test for the Bihar Police. The protest, marked by placards and anti-government slogans, turned chaotic when demonstrators breached police barricades, prompting a baton-charge to disperse the crowd. Several protesters reportedly sustained injuries in the clash, escalating outrage among the aspirants.

The demonstrators, frustrated by the lack of an announced exam date and details on total vacancies, gathered in large numbers, disrupting vehicular movement and causing a massive traffic jam. Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma explained, “The protesters reached a restricted area near Kotwali Police Station after breaching barricades. Despite repeated requests to vacate due to the traffic chaos, they refused, leaving us no choice but to use batons to restore order.”

The job aspirants, many of whom have been preparing for the constable recruitment for months, expressed anger over the government’s delay in releasing critical details about the recruitment process. “We’re not asking for favors, just a clear timeline and transparency,” said one protester, who claimed the baton-charge was excessive and injured several peaceful demonstrators.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism, with opposition leaders and activists condemning the police action as heavy-handed. They argue that the government’s failure to address the aspirants’ demands fueled the unrest. Bihar’s unemployment crisis has long been a flashpoint, with thousands of young people vying for limited government jobs, and delays in recruitment processes often lead to public outcry.

Monday’s protest underscores the growing frustration among Bihar’s youth, who see government jobs as a pathway to stability in a state grappling with economic challenges. The Bihar Police recruitment drive, one of the largest in recent years, has drawn significant attention, with aspirants demanding swift action to finalize the process. Authorities have yet to respond to the protesters’ demands, leaving the situation tense as calls for accountability and dialogue grow louder.
