PNG Users Can Now Voluntarily Surrender LPG Using MyPNG-D Portal

MyPNG-D portal lets PNG users surrender LPG connections online easily.

The government has launched a new digital initiative to simplify the process for households switching to piped natural gas (PNG). The MyPNG-D Portal (https://mypngd.in) allows PNG users to voluntarily surrender their liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections from home, eliminating the need to visit a dealership.

Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), announced the launch on X, explaining that the portal provides a convenient and streamlined way for consumers who have adopted PNG to discontinue their LPG service. According to officials, about 1,797 consumers had already surrendered their LPG connections within a day of the portal’s launch.

The move aligns with the government’s broader push to extend PNG connections across households nationwide. Amid disruptions in global oil supply triggered by the ongoing US-Iran conflict, authorities are urging citizens to transition to PNG for safer, more reliable energy. Earlier notifications indicated that households connected to PNG networks but still retaining LPG connections could face automatic disconnection of LPG service after three months.

The MyPNG-D portal is designed for ease of use. Consumers can surrender their LPG connections using either their registered mobile number or their 17-digit LPG ID. The process involves entering the details on the portal, filling a captcha, and verifying via an OTP sent by the authorities. Once completed, the LPG connection is officially discontinued without requiring a visit to the dealership.

PNG, or piped natural gas, is a methane-rich fuel supplied through mild steel and polyethylene pipelines. Like LPG, it serves domestic and commercial needs, but with added benefits: it is colourless, odourless, non-toxic, non-corrosive, and non-carcinogenic. High-purity methane ensures efficient combustion, making PNG a safe and energy-dense alternative for household use.

Experts say the portal not only simplifies administrative procedures but also encourages adoption of cleaner, more sustainable fuel options. By making the surrender process convenient, the government hopes to accelerate the nationwide transition to piped natural gas, reducing dependence on LPG and enhancing domestic energy security.
