PM Modi Visits Red Fort Blast Survivors in Delhi After Bhutan Return

PM Modi visits hospital post-Bhutan trip.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a beeline for Delhi’s Lok Nayak Hospital on Wednesday evening, straight after landing from Bhutan, to personally meet survivors of the devastating Red Fort car blast that claimed 13 lives. Security was tightened around the facility as the PM spent time with the 20 injured, offering words of comfort and prayers for their swift recovery amid a national outpouring of grief and outrage.

The explosion ripped through a white Hyundai i20 near the iconic Red Fort at 6:50 PM Monday during peak traffic, incinerating nearby vehicles and scattering debris across the historic area. Investigators confirmed the blast was a suicide attack, with the driver—identified as Dr. Umar Nabi, linked to Al Falah University in Faridabad—perishing in the detonation. The bomb, packed with ANFO and high-grade explosives, was manually triggered, sources revealed.

Hours before the blast, security agencies busted a sophisticated “white collar” terror module involving Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind operatives across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Eight arrests were made, including three doctors from Al Falah University—Dr. Muzammil Ganaie and Dr. Shaheen Sayeed—along with the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives, including 360 kg of ammonium nitrate from the university premises.

Intelligence sources disclosed that Ganaie and Nabi had conducted reconnaissance of the Red Fort area, originally planning a Diwali strike but shifting to Monday after logistical failures. Republic Day was also on their target list. The use of a more potent explosive compound than standard ammonium nitrate has raised alarms about the module’s access to advanced bomb-making materials.

As Modi’s hospital visit signaled strong leadership in crisis, the nation remains on edge with probes intensifying into the terror network. The Al Falah University connection has sparked scrutiny of institutional oversight, while security forces race to dismantle remaining cells before further attacks.
