PM inaugurates Kalachakra with Bhutanese royals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood alongside Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck to jointly inaugurate the revered Kalachakra Empowerment ceremony on Wednesday at the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival in Bhutan. The sacred ritual, presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, drew thousands of devotees and scholars from across the Buddhist world, emphasizing teachings on time, compassion, and universal harmony in a serene Himalayan setting.

Modi highlighted the event’s global cultural importance, noting, “This is an important ritual with great cultural significance for Buddhists around the world.” He described the Kalachakra, or ‘Wheel of Time,’ as a profound spiritual practice within the larger festival framework, fostering peace and unity through ancient wisdom and collective prayer.

In a separate meeting earlier in the day, Modi engaged warmly with the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, commending his decades-long vision in nurturing India-Bhutan ties. They explored expanded collaboration in energy, trade, digital technology, and cross-border connectivity, with Modi praising the ambitious Gelephu Mindfulness City project as a forward-looking initiative aligned with India’s Act East Policy.

On Tuesday, marking the first day of his two-day visit, Modi delivered a keynote address at Changlimethang Stadium during celebrations for the former king’s 70th birth anniversary. He reaffirmed the centuries-old spiritual and cultural connection between India and Bhutan, pledging unwavering support for shared development, prosperity, and regional peace.
